iPhone won't turn on after screen replacement?

I work on iPhones often. With this one, I opened it and replaced the screen. Before I closed it up, I tried to turn it on, but it would not turn on. I also tried to plug it in, and it repeatedly made the charging sound.

Okay put pressure down on three connector from the replacement screen to the phone. I use my finger to push down on the connector while the iphone was on, boom the screen went on. The trick was I put a piece of paper between the silver shield and three connector. Hope it work for you.

I had the exact issue and panicked because I didn't do a backup of my fiancé's phone before I did the screen replacement. When I plugged in the phone to my laptop, it appeared as a connected device and showed all the correct information related to the phone. The screen went black, and only made a repeating charging beep and a vibration when I would turn the sound on and off. Below are the steps that I took:

-Removed the bottom 2 screws

-Elevated the screen (did not detach the screen)

-Removed the shield that connects the battery to the main board

-Disconnected the battery

-Held down the power button at the top of the phone to remove any remaining power

-Reconnected the battery

-Placed the shield back

-Reconnected the screen to the phone

-Powered on to test and BOOM!!

It was working like new and immediately did a full backup.

I really hope this helps you with your issue. If not, try some of the other solutions on the iPhone won’t turn on wiki. Good luck!

I repair cell phones at my shop. I have received 3 iphones in the past week that have no response at all.

1. Iphone 5s - I replaced the screen and it never had power or turned on again or communicated with ITunes. I tried the reboot many times.

2. Iphone 5s - The screen was replaced a month ago and suddenly died with no charging, or lcd digitizer response or iTunes response.

3. Iphone 5c - came in from another shop with no response from charging, LCD Digitizer, ITunes or hard reset.

I have replace charging ports, batteries, and lcd digitizers with working units on all three devices and they still will not respond at all. Please help.

This is the 3rd Iphone this week with sudden death and for no apparent reason. There is no water damage or physical damage that would cause this problem. The insides look perfect. They will not respond to charging, hard reset, soft reset, or any other thing I have read to try. The mother boards and connectors look perfect under a microscope.

From the days of modding the first Sony psp... And making pandora batteries, for magic memory sticks lol ... If you ever cut or damage a conductive line on a board.. You can fix the issue by using a number 2 pencil and the graphite will reconnect the electrical circuit just be sure not to interconnect any lines, however with a digitizer cable punctured this will only work if it's a small puncture as it cannot fix a complete tear in the cable... I fixed a friends iPhone 5s this way after he attempted a screen repair himself ;)

And before asked to specify you sharpen the pencil as pointy as you can get it and then gradually color in the problematic area until a nice very small pile of dust is seen then blow this off and if the circuit is now appearing to be connected with the graphite line try your work and then use your repaired device to thank me :)

Try in the following order: disconnect the screen, reconnect the screen making sure all 3 connectors are properly seated, connect the iPhone to a charger or your computer, then reboot your iPhone (press and hold Home Button and Power Button together for 15 seconds).

Try this and let me know if it helped. If not, we can look at other causes and possible solutions.

got a weird one with an iPhone 5C. Replaced the screen but get a random or blank screen. However if the digitiser connector is not connected I get a picture 99% of the time. Click in the digitiser connector and off it goes. Have tried a couple of screens but no joy. Anyone got any ideas?

из

I tried this with the SE and it didn't work :/ there is no light or sound even when i charge it, everything is connected well etc, tried two different screens etc. Any ideas?

из

Then @alreve your device is “dead” and you need to have someone look at it. By elimination, the cause can be narrowed down to the housing or the board itself. And if the board is failing, narrow it down to what the cause is at board level.

Hi, I have a similar issue.

Just replaced a screen on an iPhone 5s and now it doesn't seem to boot up. I get the Apple logo then the screen goes blue and restarts the process again.

Any help massively appreciated

You have damaged a chip on the motherboard. Happens every now and then at our repair shop, we then buy the costumer a new phone.

One time, I replaced a 5s screen, mounted the backplate over the connectors and tested the screen. Worked perfectly. I closed the phone and it's broken without me touching any internals. Some iPhones have a temper.

из

Actually the resistor on the front camera will cause this problem.

из

what do u mean by resistor Chris Ward?

из

I just found out yesterday, that if you damage any part of the front camera/mic/prox. sensor flex cable, this too will cause the blue screen reboot looping.

I was told by several people with 100% certainty, that the blue screen was from the long screw on the connector plate being screwed into the wrong hole, and damaging one of the underlying traces on the logic board. I found this to be odd, because I use iCracked screw maps, so the proper screws always go back in the proper spots .... but they insisted this was my problem! So I fished out the logic board, scraped off the protective paint, and proceeded to look at the traces under the screw posts ... All the traces seemed in tact! :(

It was not until I did some more reading that I found a post where somebody volunteered that if you "banana" the camera/mic/prox. sensor flex cable, it can cause the blue screen reboot loop.

So back to the patient I went .... took a closer look at this flex cable, and it did look a bit mangled, so I ordered a new one for $8, and VOILA!! The iPhone 5S was as good as new!!

из

Dude u are legend.with that camera idea I replaced the iPhone 6s screen after everything I put back phone didn't turn on . And then I read ur comment before that I removed battery clean the flex with alcohol noone of em work but I removed camera cleaned with alcohol ped assembled iphone back yeahhhooooo turned on cheers mate.

Mike were do you buy your screens?

Must say I have fixed 1000s of iPhones and never did I once have to restore for phone to work. Obviously there is something wrong in the way you are installing the parts plus blue or red screen indicates the wrong screws in the emi Sheild and tearing traces below the screw holes. Hopefully this is not the case but you might be hearing from your customer sooner than later

Not sure if this will be of help for anyone. But I had a similar thing happen to my wifes iphone 4. I replaced the old cracked screen with a new one and carefully re assembled the phone back together. Once the battery was connected, I turned the phone back on to see if the screen worked. At this point everything looked fine. Battery was at 16% as well. So i put the phone on the charger to charge over night and it showing showing that it was 100% charged. I didn't think much of this. So basically in the morning once i took it off the charger it died straight away.

Spent all day trying to find forums to help me pin point the issue. Tried charging the phone again and all it would do was turn on with the apple icon and stay on that screen for 3mins before it made it to the main home screen. then after 2mins it would turn off and restart itself. So i had a feeling that it could've been a battery issue. The battery itself i'm pretty sure was long due to die.

So i managed to figure out what the problem was. I took my iphone and I decided to try my battery in my wifes iphone and took her battery from her phone and tried it on mine. Turns out that my battery worked fine on my wifes iphone while her battery didn't turn my phone on. So the issue was a dead battery.

So with the battery that wouldn't work...i took a closer look at the ribbon connector and it look like it was bent to the point of breaking off. So if you think, you put everything back together carefully, then I would check the battery to make sure that the ribbon connector isnt damaged etc.

If you are like me and forgot to turn off the phone before you replaced the screen, you probably just shorted one of the backlight's connection pins. In my case the solution was to disconnect the battery, plug in the new screen, and then plug the battery back in.

If the iPhone is making the charging sound, but not displaying anything, there are a few possibilities.

The first is if you did not disconnect the battery, or did not fully disconnect it before starting your repair. This means that when connecting up the screen you have fried the backlight to the phone, rendering it impossible to use. This requires a board level repair.

The second is more common, the connectors have not been fully “clicked” into place. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the screen.

The third is that you have caused long screw damage. To try and prevent repairs that aren’t certified by Apple, screws in many places (including the bracket over the LCD connectors) are different lengths. This means that putting a screw in that is only 1mm longer will go through and damage the logic board. Again, this requires a logic board repair.

Hope this answers your question.

hey tom just encountered the same thing i hope this helps cause it helped me i bought a replacement screen with all the attachments when i replaced it the phone would flash red and then reboot it would continually do this till it finally booted up the customer then took phone home when phone died and try to charge it would go to the red screen i put back the original it would stay on longer but then reboot to a blue screen now its important to make sure that it turns blue or the original is back on. Now what you do is restore the iphone when your booting it up hold the home button and power button at same time until its in dfu mode while connected to pc or mac then restore iphone after that it should work i bought a another screen but one that i need to transfer all the parts too. I think since the screen i bought had all the non-apple parts the hardware messed up the phone so with the new screen transfer the parts son the only thing that is not original is the screen. It worked for me it should work for you

I am copy and pasting this article, the link above posted by "con" because it is the compete and comprehensive article I have ever read on any iPhone issue, and I've read a lot of them.

Thank you con for posting this, and sharing this site with the rest of us. Please actually click the above link to view the included very detailed images.

Lately here at iPhoneBits we have been noticing an influx in a particular fault with the latest Apple product, the fault is the iPhone 5S Blue screen of death fault, this problem seems to arise mostly after a screen has been changed on the device. Here at iPhone Bits we have found out why……

iPhone 5S Blue Screen, How It Happens

Anytime we have seen this issue, or if we have had a call about this issue, the question we ask is “has this handset been worked at?” the answer is always YES. When we see a fault being reported more than once, we then make it our business to find out why this fault is happening and is there a solution! When we get asked if we can repair this fault, we ask the customer some questions:

Have you had a repair carried out on this device?

Does your iPhone 5S reboot and go to iTunes restore window?

When you turn on your iPhone 5s does it Boot Loop?

After Blue screen fault, when you restore on iTunes do you get error 9 or error 14?

So a quick summary. We now know that this fault is caused by repair centres who are inexperienced, or failed “self repairs” .

iPhone 5S Screen Replacement Process

So the screen repair on an iPhone 5S is not really that hard to achieve for an experienced Technician , without going into the quality of screens and the difference between a cheap screen and an expensive original screen, we will just look at the repair process, Here is an excellent guide from iMore on how to change your iPhone 5S screen . once you have had a look at the link, we will explain where this blue screen fault all goes wrong!

How This Issue Happens

iPhone 5S shield

When you carry out a screen repair on the iPhone 5S, there is a shield which need to be removed, this shield covers the LCD cable, Proximity sensor cable and the touch screen digitiser cable. This shield is fixed to the board of the 5S to stop the cables being dislodged easily by a drop, this was a common issue in older iPhone models and this is the reason the shield has been put in place. Now you can see from the image above that these screws are all individual and should be put back in the same slot they came out of. if you check out the link again for iMore you will see a better images and you can see the difference in the screws , the main difference and concern being the size!

The Fault

Ok, so when you remove this shield , we have realised that the screws need to be placed back in the same place that they came out from. Failure to do so will result in THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH, Below is an image of the offending screw that causes this issue

iPhone 5S error 9 error 14The picture above you can see the red circle around one of the screws that holds the shield in place that needs removed to carry out an iPhone 5S screen repair, if you put the wrong screw in this slot then your iPhone will be TOAST, the screw that holds this shield in place is a different size, and when fitted in wrong place the result is BLUE SCREEN, in the next image you will see what happens when the wrong screw is placed in the wrong slot

The Cause Of Fault

The next image will show a close up image of this screw mount that has been subject to the wrong screw being fitted in its slot , it looks quite messy, the reason this is ! the screw was to long and has actually screwed right into the logic board and destroyed the layers of the logic board, (did you know that the iPhone 5S has 10 layers on the logic board)

iPhone 5S blue screen rebootThe Next image will show the damage that has been caused clearer, what we have done here is scraped down into the layers of the logic board to find the damaged layers and tracks so we can repair them

iPhone 5S blue screen fixAs you can see there is 7 tracks here, 6 of them have been damaged by the wrong screw being fitted into the wrong slot and this is what causes the blue screen of death with iPhone 5S

Can it Be Repaired?

Here at iPhone Bits we have successfully repaired this issue by repairing the logic board tracks, obviously every case is individual and we would need to see it to assess if it can be repaired, but we maintain the following . if we cannot repair it then its not repairable . Here at iPhone Bits we pride ourselves on the fact that we can repair faults that no other repair centre will be able to do, this is the force that drives us on and makes us spend the time researching these faults and not giving up until we find the fault, and can offer a repair .

Hey all.

Unfortunately, In many cases this is due to damage unknowingly caused to logic board while putting the phone back together.

Some screws are very slightly (VERY slightly) longer than others and placing them in the wrong hole causes them to screw right into the logic board and through the traces (electrical connections on the board).

If this is the case you have three options:

1) New phone

2) New Logic board

3) Repair by someone very talented.

You'll have to hunt around for pricing etc.

== added Question, please Help!==

I currently have the same problem with the black screen and charging sound every 8 seconds. However, when I first assembled I was able to see the screen until placing the screen all the way down and it went back to black.

I also ripped the Thermal Plate Copper Shielding Tape that connects the front facing camera. If this is disconnected will the iphone stay black? I tried scraping away at the tape to reconnect Copper connection but think I failed at this, I see you can buy the replacement copper tape but would this even be the same cause as the black LCD screen?

Thanks

I had my daughter's Iphone 5c screen replaced on Dec. 19th because she cracked it but it was working fine when I took it in. Once the repair was complete we added the screen protector immediately. About 5 days later she could not slide the icon to open the phone so she removed the protector thinking it might help and screen had to hair line cracks. I believe the replace screen was defective. Is that possible?

из

@ Linda McCarty .... yes it is extremely possible, it could be down to the digitizer connector not being seated properly, if all is well there, more than likely a dodgy screen....

It isnt a big job for the phone shop to check the connector is seated properly so just return it to them and get them to check it.. will take them less than 5 minutes

Serge Mann, you probably have a defective screen. What you are describing (beep noise, no image after screen replacement) means the phone is NOT seeing the new screen. Since you tried everything else, you now have to try a new screen on. Be careful not to damage the flat cables as they are fragile. Also note that iPhone 5 and 5S screens have become so expensive lately that unless you're buying from a reputed seller like iFixit that carry excellent parts and a solid warranty, you are very likely getting a low quality part that breaks easily or just doesn't work right out of the box. I advise to buy a good quality screen and be gentle during installation. Don't forget to disconnect (disconnect, not remove) the battery before attempting the repair.

When it just makes just a chime the LCD is under some kind of stress. This is caused from the back metal bracket out of alignment creating upward pressure. Try realigning it to test it remove it. WOW! it now boots up but only if you remove and re-install the battery connection. Now for all you Red and Blue screen people out there your motherboard is damaged with the wrong screw installed or over tightened! No google result will fix a bad trace on a motherboard so stop looking and consult a professional board repair specialist.

Unfortunately you've probably answered your own question.

Buying screens off eBay is a very risky endeavor, as you know nothing about who you're buying them from, or the quality of the screen.

If you do this for a living , Then you want to take the time to seek out a reputable screen dealer, and develop a lasting long-term relationship with them. Consistency in the quality of the products you offer, will make or break your business!

из

About six months ago I lost my phone before recovering it got ran over. Glass was shattered but screen still work. After a week screen stopped working. So, I ordered a new screen assembly which was wrong (5s instead of 5). Finally, I've received the correct screen but, after installation still not working. Doesn't even indicate charging when plugged in. Could it be the battery…? Is it shot to !&&*???

из

The fact that it WAS working, and then stopped, makes me suspect you have a connector that has become dislodged or damaged. I would start checking where the USB charge port flex connects to the board (just above the battery connector), or you may want to check the small FPC type connector beside the top right corner of the battery that connects to the board beside the LCD display connectors. Disconnect each of these connectors, and with a magnifying glass, check the pins on both male and female sides of the connectors - looking for bent and/or broken pins. If the connectors are intact, then try reconnecting, and make sure they are pressed firm and seated properly.

It could also be broken traces somewhere in the logic board itself. When a phone is run over, just about every screw, push connector, and shards of glass push against things not meant to push against,

Repairs of this type can prove to be difficult to troubleshoot, as the damage is not localized to one point of impact per se.

Good luck!

из

Sorry for the delay in my response but, what an amazing answer! That was insightful, detailed and, easy enough to make it the complex simple. Still didn't help me fix it b/c I just don't have the skill or, rather the time & resources to go through that entire process. Although, I work with my hands a lot as a DIYer, I don't do this often enough to spend the time learning all the nuances. However, BRAVO!!! Now if I could just get some help like this on my car! lol CHEERS!

Sounds like you have not made LCD connections proper. Make sure that you have properly connected the LCD cables to the logic board. Also where did you purchase the replacement LCD? I have received faulty screens. I would test a new battery and your old screen or a different screen to assure it is not a problem with the phone. Always disconnect the battery before disconnecting and reconnecting the LCD cables. You don't want to trip the backlight fuse.

If the phone is not displaying with any screens or lcds, but is making sounds and being read on iTunes on your computer, then you may have probably damaged the backlight fuse on the motherboard, try using a flashlight on your screen and see if you see anything. If you are hearing sounds but their is no display or the display is super dim then that is the backlight
