New screen flickers and touch doesn't work

iPhone 6 Plus, bought it with a cracked screen. Had been dropped. Screen was cracked, so I bought a new screen. The phone with the old screen would flicker/flash white bars on the top of the LCD and touch would almost never work. If it did, it was after sitting for awhile. I replaced it with a new assembly and it's doing the same exact thing as the old cracked one. What gives?

Update

UPDATE: Still works every once in awhile, but I noticed that if I bend the phone backwards, touch works. If I want to navigate the phone, I just bend it and it works. ould that be a board issue?

Any help? ......................

из

Hi Jonny, Where did you buy it from?

из

eBay, it costed me $67.99. Could it possibly be a faulty new assembly?

из

Also, the home button cable was/is broken so the home button is not plugged in. Could this cause issues such as this? Thnx!!!!

из

Issue came back...halp

Your plug-ins could be not properly plugged in all the way that's a very common problem with the 6+ because the plug-ins are so long, however you did mention that was dropped so it very much well could be something in the motherboard causing it to do all this !

But for the most part I would start in with the plug-ins

Thanks for the input. It wasn't a hard fall onto the case, it fell face flat onto the screen. Could that really cause board damage? I use to drop my 4 all day long and it wouldn't have issues...

из

So it ended up being connection issues. I tightened the hec k out of the EMI shield that covers the dig/home button/lcd connectors and its flickered maybe twice, but I can always get it working fine if I gently push in the corner.

Thanks all!

из

i had the exact same problem.the long connector wasnt pushed in fully all over. the phone is working 100% now. Thank you for the tip.

из

Thanks man, re-attaching the cables solved the problem for me too. You just saved me $350 as Apple wanted to replace the logic board for this amount of money. They did not even offer a "let's take a look at the cable plugs"...

If old and new screen are showing the exact same issue, odds are the drop that cracked the screen caused damage somewhere else on the board or someone trying to fix it caused pry or other damage.

I'd start by examining the whole board using 20x or more magnification for traces of damage mechanical (I mean things seem broken damaged, missing, or part removed from the board) and possibly liquid damage.

EDIT: this issue is ever more recurring. We are encountering a lot of touch issues: intermittent or permanent loss of touch, accompanied with flickering on the top of the screen, and sometimes other visual artifacts on the screen.

To fix this issue permanently, we are replacing one or both the touch controllers AKA touch ICs. This often occurs after a drop, a bent in the housing, sometimes after a screen crack and sometimes without any evidence of drop on the phone housing.

The old screen would flicker very rarely, but the new one does it all the time now. It's also really weird, after sitting, I go to use the phone and it functions perfectly, no flickering or touch issues...for up to 20 seconds. Then touch sops working and screen shows gray bars.

How do you reflow/reball a logic board connector? Also, What tools are required?

из

Specialized soldering tools, supplies, scope, hot air. Lots of training and skill. This is not a DIY job.

из

Do you know of any repair shops that can do this repair for me? Also, do you know how much it would cost?

из

philreinhart, where are you located?

Everyone should be aware of how staggeringly common touch ic disease is on the iPhone 6/6+ and what the underlying cause is. Read this. http://tinyurl.com/z56m532

Any of the scenarios they mentioned could be the problem or it could also be a defective screen. I have had a hard time finding quality 6+ screens online. Maybe someone else knows of a reputable source. Did the seller have a good reputation showing a good amount of success with this screen?

The seller was not that great. Based in Hong Kong, bu the listing said the assemblies were "tested before shipment".

iFixit, etrade supply, revampwholesale are all great suppliers. I've had great experiences with each supplier.

Have exact same issue. Flickers across top. Random and erratic function. Similiarly, pressing firmly on opposite corners, it may work- screen goes blank and have to restart but works with fingers of one hand holding pressure on the corners. No hits, falls or trauma that I know of- who knows if my butt and pressure sitting on it bent something. Case lays flat. No detectable distortion. Occurred after riding on train to NYC and installing several apps. One app actually controlled the camera function. Worked with Apple 2 hours on the phone. Now I have to go 2 hours to the nearest Apple store. Phone only 2 months old- loved-now hate the phone. It can't be this vulnerable. I will let you know how it goes. I hope someone figures out the issue.

Update (11/02/2015)

Apple replaced the phone and no issues. Probably the curvature of my posterior is less then the tolerance of the screen flexibility. The new one has worked well living in my front pocket.

I have had my phone for a little under a year..I am having the exact same problem with the screen and line at the top I was told Apple would fix it for free as long as it wasn't water damage or hasn't been dropped or cracked a screen. How long did it take Apple to fix your phone that same day? I live in TX and I am having to take my phone an hour away to our nearest Apple store to get my phone repaired or replaced. Did they give you a new phone or just replace your old one? Thank you in advance for the help.

I had this same problem after 8 months.

Took it to the Apple Store, they replaced no questions asked. My new one started doing it 5 days after getting t home. I'm also starting to think the problem is related to putting the phone in my rear pocket. But it's the only pocket that holds the phone. This is a weak ass vulnerability. How could this pass QC? Luckily I only have 10 minutes to go to get a new hand set. I'll update if I get another replacement.

The root of iPhone 6 plus touch screen is failure lies with touch IC chips on the mother board. So why we have touch IC problem see more in iPhone 6 plus. Most probably the answer is iPhone 6 plus board design. Or the other fault which we can guess is both touch ic chip on iPhone 6 plus are not under fill. iPhone 6 plus touch screen failure caused by two ic chip named as meson u2402 and cumulus u2401. if there are no lines on the lcd and just the touch is not working this is caused by meson chip, and if there are lines on the lcd it is controlled by cumulus ic. A good repair on iPhone 6 plus touch screen failure is to replace both mason and cumulus ic

Why iPhone 6 plus have touch screen problem?

We have read many blogs about iPhone 6 plus touch screen failure. But most of them are from non technical bloggers. They will recommend you to clean the lcd screen or restart iPhone or reset or restore the iPhone. None of these will ever fix the iPhone 6 plus touch problem. The problem starts with iPhone 6 plus logic board design. The PCB is thin and no undersell on the both ic chip. Any fall or shock or drop of iPhone 6 plus make one of the small joints of the chip to the board came off and touch ic stop working. The solder balls underneath ic chip can also come off because of the oxidation and contamination.

Does reflow work on iPhone 6 plus touch ic?

Reflowing ic can make touch work temporarily but it is not a permanent solution. We have to replace with touch ic and this is very skilled job. You have to have right tools and expertise to carryout this repair or your iPhone will go dead forever. Any questions visit here http://www.applefix.co.nz/blog/iphone-6-...

Might also with an overheating issue with the touch chip. I keep the iPhone 6 + at about 68F and it is working fine so far.
