Magic Mouse suddenly stopped moving smoothly

Hi all,

I was using my Magic Mouse from years and, from one day to another, it stopped moving smoothly. The mouse pointer is jiggling in such a way that it's unusable. (Clicking and swiping work well). The batteries are not low and even replacing them with fresh ones didn't change this strange behavior. The optical lens seems to be clean and nothing particular happened to my mouse to give it a reason for this. The most weird thing is that it worked flawlessly since yesterday. Does anyone have any idea on what might have happened to my Magic Mouse? Thanks to everyone who can give me some tips.

Hi Mik,

thank you for your prompt reply! Unfortunately I previously did all of that. OS X updated (10.11.5) days before this problem arose. I use a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011, so no USB3) with that mouse without any problem before. So I didn't make any changes to my Mac (and mouse) prior to this problem. Also tried to remove pairing and creating new one without any change. Today I also tried to pair another (used and borrowed) Magic Mouse which worked flawlessly. At this point, it seems to be an hardware issue... But I'm still trying to figure out what could suddenly happen to that mouse... (very sad)

Ciao Gabriele!

It could be a software problem and not hardware..

First of all, have done an OS update or install new hardware from when you have notice the bad behaviour of your mouse?

Bluetooth device and usb3 hardware have some problem to live together..

Try to un-coupling the mouse in the OS using the Bluetooth preference panel and coulple it again as a new device!

If this don't work, You can also would try to reset your P.Ram (shut down the computer, turn it on and before you hear the chime sound hold those 4 key: P+R+alt+cmd till your mac reboot again).

No way. Even powering off all nearby wireless devices (even wifi AP and wifi interface on Mac) doesn't fix the problem. Anyway, since only mouse movements (and not finger scrolling, for example) are involved, I suppose that's not a matter of bad link quality between mouse and Mac...

After trying all the other suggested fixes, this one did the job: I cleaned the optical lenses with Isopropyl 91 alcohol using a cotton swab and drying it with another swab. Bingo. Good as new.
