Mac mini Model A1176 Repair (Early 2006 - Mid 2007)

1.5 Core Solo, 1.66 or 1.83 Core Duo, or 1.83 or 2 GHz Core 2 Duo processor. This covers the first Intel-based Mac Mini models from Early 2006 to Mid 2007.

Anyone found an alternative Mac Mini outer casing?

Hi! I recently acquired a 100% functional Mac Mini from a recycler, the only catch being that the outer casing has been destroyed, and so the guts of the Mini are exposed, and it's not really in re-saleable condition. I've looked into replacing the casing, but it seems a little silly to spend $50-$100 that people are asking.

Does anyone have thoughts on a practical alternative to Apple's Mini case? I'd prefer something on the practical/discreet side, as opposed to goofy and outrageous.

If you end up with it in the cube case or the floppy disk drive, you should take some pics and link them here so we can take a look at what you did.

How about a nice ammo box. Lay it on its side, cut the top for the CD drive. Larger boxes could be used for extra hard drives. Comes with a carrying handle.

Awesome idea Mayer! I'm going to seriously consider it...my only concern is that the metal might keep wireless from working, but I'm sure there are ways around that.

R Trent, thanks for the idea...I have an old Cube around, so I'll see if it fits...that would potentially be a fairly easy solution.

Yeah WL might be an issue- also it'd add a TON of weight, probably not good for ventilation either though, do you have a CNC machine?

The cube's a great idea- in fact, it's upgrading the Cube so you get some sort of Mac Cube? Cube Mini? Whose origins cross processors and years.

Oh wow, that is amazing!!! I just finished putting it into a Cube case, but I think I'm going to buy an Apple floppy drive on eBay now, cuz that's just too cool to not try! :-) Thanks!

How about buying a cheap generic mini-pc case? You can also often get those with a built in power supply, which is useful.
