I just found my old 2600 in my garage, I cleaned it up and even fixed one of the controllers that was broken inside, so when I plug it in and turn it on the screen seems a lot darker than I remember it looking, what could cause this? everything else works fine.

Try checking the screen settings on your television. On my LG I can set different lighting settings for different inputs, and some cause the screen to appear darker than others. Each input on your television will have different pictureh modes so setting it on one input will not automatically transfer it over to another.

I used the rca cable to the cable coax adapter method, I'm using a newer samsung hd tv.

Did you check your RF switch on the back of the console? And the tip of the cord that goes into the console? Sometimes it gets dirty over time and doesn't get a good connection. I would suggest unplugging everything the get a qtip with rubbing alcohol and cleaning the connector on the console and the end of the cord. That works for me.
