Disk drives fail. This one could be up to 29 years old. I'd open the machine, see what it is using and possibly replace it.

Tried another CD and it worked. Apparently, the new empty CD I purchased was bad. I tried again by writing the same music to the next empty CD and this one worked. Why the player didn't like the first one is a mystery
Disk vary as to writability. You may be using off brands or higher density disk than the CD driver can use or a DVD disk,
