Keyboard not working or typing?

Barely stepped on the edge of the computer and now the keyboard won't type. Lights up and the laptop turns on and everything but no type function. Help?

Austin Harris use a USB keyboard and see if that works. If so, it is most likely that you either have a broken keyboard or a broken connector on your board. You will have to disassemble your laptop to check on that.

It may or may not fix the particular issue in this case, but I just had the same thing happen and got it worked out, so posting just in case.

I’ve had this issue literally a few moments ago, as well as on the MSI laptop I had for less than a year. Basically all i did was to restart the stupid thing. My keyboard was lit up and typing fine one moment, but then suddenly in the middle of a sentence it wouldn’t register a key stroke on any program I had open. Restarting fixed it.

A lot of people are having that issue lately, especially if you’re on Windows 10. So, if you have problems with it, quickest way to try a fix is restarting and seeing if that does it. Not sure why it does to begin with though..

But, yeeeeah, I miss my MSI...

you may have stepped on a key and held it too long therefore activating the Sticky or filter keys or other optional keyboard settings.

Try this first before you get into all the hardware fixes:

Method 1: Disable the Filter keys and check if it works.

a: Type Ease of access in the start search box and hit enter.

b: Now click Change how your keyboard works

c: Remove the check mark from the box next to Turn on FilterKeys.

d: Click the blue Set Up FilterKeys link

e: Underneath Keyboard shortcut, remove the check mark from the box next to Turn on FilterKeys when right SHIFT is pressed for 8 seconds.

f: Now click Ok two times.
