How to fix error 20
I have a 5d Mkii that keeps giving me a error 20. What is problem.

hello, it's a late answer,
err 20 corresponds mainly to the mechanism of the defective mirror.
but the shutter may be defective, (although err 30 should be displayed), or the motherboard if the device displays err 20 after wetting the device (but this is unlikely).
it can also be an electronic problem on the lower board when exposed to water.

Description: A malfunction with the mechanical mechanism has been detected.
Resolution: Turn the power off, then remove and re-install the battery. Then turn the power on again.
This is direct from Canon.

I think it might be also a contact problem between your body and the lens. Check if the lens are properly attached to the body when you twist them into place. If you can slightly move it, take it off and tighten the small screws at the bottom of the lens that holds the EF mount to yhe tube of the lens. Now try to reattach the lens and test if the problem still exists.

Jag får fel meddelande err 20 när jag går ut och fotograferar och det är kallt som det var idag, minus 3 grader. Men när jag kommer in och kameran blivit varm fungerar den normalt. Jag köpte helt nytt Canon original batteri och laddade den fullt innan jag gick ut.
Kan de möjligtvis vara fukt i kameran .

yes if your camera has a problem only by exposing it to the cold, it is quite possible that it comes from the lower card which controls all the motors of the mirror and the shutter
Partially disassemble the camera, first the rear cover, then the lower cover, and the front cover (Be very careful to unplug the microphone!!!)
you will see under the tripod mounting plate the board responsible for your error, there may be a bad contact on the electrical sockets which must move.
If it still doesn't work, it may be the shutter mechanism, it may need to be replaced.

Hi Everyone! I think I figured it out (it works on any Canon camera with similar battery compartment as the Canon 5D mark IV).
When you open the battery compartment on your camera you can feel with your fingers that the battery can slightly move inside, because of that spring that pushes it back from the bottom. I think this error comes up when the contact is not sufficient with the battery, so try the following:
- open the battery compartment door
- put a fully charged battery in
- get a piece of paper and fold it until it becomes 1-2 millimeters thick
- put the paper on top of the battery
- now it will be a bit harder to close the battery door but try. If it is too hard, do not force it, just tear a small part of the paper off so it gets a little thinner (but make sure the paper will for sure apply a bit of extra push-in pressure on the battery.) and then you can close the door.
- now try to shoot...
For me it worked just fine, I hope it will work for you as well...
