Problem with cables to capture device

Hi, sorry if this is the wrong forum.

I have a capture device to transfer tapes to digital, but I'm having a problem with the cables. The camcorder has a black and yellow cable, which the capture device also has. The problem is that the black cable for capture device isn't the same as the black for the camera, seen in the photos. Is there any cable I could buy to link these together?

Is there an adapter for the composite and S Video to connect to the camcorder?

The black DIN plug is S-video in to the converter device. Your camcorder probably doesn’t support that. All you need is the yellow composite video cable and one of the two audio channels. The old video camcorders typically only have mono audio so the red or white will work for the audio transfer. You just have to make sure your software is recording on the appropriate channel that you connected to on your converter device. The resolution will be pretty terrible but hey it isn’t high def is it?

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean that the black cable just needs to go from the camera to either red/yellow on device?

Software isn't picking up any input currently so that needs to be my next test, I initially thought the cables not being compatible may be the problem, hence my query.

Hi @Lee Whittaker

No,

The black cable from the camera needs to go to either the white or the red from the device. This is for the audio. White is usually the designated connector colour for left audio channel and red is for right audio channel for stereo audio

The yellow is for the video. The yellow from the camera needs to go to the yellow from the device

@Lee Whittaker yes exactly

Yes the black cable is your video S cable & is an option for plugging your camcorder into an old VHS/VCR player into you camera & then to yr computer with aforementioned audio to digitise old VHS tapes. Some old Laptops also have a socket forVideo S cable so you can connect from yr camera to computer. Hope this helps.

Some photos, my old camcorder has a hidden flap where one end of your S Video cable goes & the other end to an old laptop or into a VHS/VCR player.

The Video S cable delivers better quality. It’s tricky to insert there’s a little arrow on the cable which lines up your pins. But as they said you probably don’t need to unless yr old laptop has an S Video cable socket too.
