Injector return line leaking

A small hole developed in my 1999 JD 870 injector return line and fuel leaks out even when engine is off. Plastic line, curves along top of engine. Guessing a mouse chewed the hole. I notice the line is in sections. Area affected is about 7-8" with clamps on either end. Can this simply be replaced with a substitute length of line? If so, what are the specs? Suggested removal and replacement tips?

Thanks.

John

Not sure if you are referring to the return lines from the injectors or not. Check the attached image. If we both are talking about the same line, it will be in sections, since it is connecting to the return ports. It appears that these lines are not pressurized and thus you could replace it with a length of fuel line. As for the how to, and what to expect etc. you can download the service manual from here. Hope this helps, good luck.

Oldturkey,

Maybe I'm not talking return line - My situation doesn't match the image. But thank you for your quick response and help. Does this site support photos? I have pictures of the line I'm referring to. I'll also have another look at the configuration on my machine and see if I can better describe it. I'm not good at this, so thanks for your patience.

John Peters, you can attach an image by clicking on the orange tab on the bottom right of this screen. It says "Images" click on it and it will partially open up. Click on "Upload" and another window will open up asking you to either drag and drop an image from the desktop or "Browse files" I select the "browse Files" go to the directory my images are kept and select it. That image will then show in the partially opened image window on the bottom of this screen. Left click on the image, holding the left mouse button down and drag it into your message window. I make it sound complicated but it really is not ;-) A couple of pictures would be good to see what vicinity your line runs at etc....Hope this helps.

OT - my images are in two "answer" boxes (I effectively "answered" my own question in order to get the photos to post).

OT,

Just checking to see if you were able to access the photos. Thanks.

john, thanks for the pictures. the S curved lines are return lines and can be replaced with regular line. I believe that JD also makes them from regular shop stock. I think they are number 10 on the second image I attached to my original answer. The part number for the stock fuel line at JD is M88201 and number 7 on the diagram are the retainer CH10323. Hope I got the right part identified. If not let me know, those pictures definitely help.
