How do I open it
How can I destroy the hard drive before recycling? I can't see how to open it up.

@jackiemill87610 your tablet does not have a hard drive. All files etc. are stored on memory "chips" that are soldered on the circuit board. Here is how you get to the board Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 Motherboard Replacement - iFixit Repair Guide
To erase all the files/etc. you will have to get your tablet to power up and to reset it to factory default. The only other way is physical destruction of the IC's
