Is there something weird about replacing the front glass on this iMac? I can't seem to find the part in iFixit — only the full assembly. (So ~$300 vs. ~$60). What am I missing?

I have a feeling you might be thinking of older styler iMacs where the glass panel was held on with magnets and the LCD panel is separate. Any of the models 2012 or newer have gone to a different style of display. The glass is adhered to the LCD panel, which makes replacing just the glass a much trickier task (and honestly, it's probably not worth the extra labor). I have never even looked to see if you can buy that separately on the newer models.
Whole panel replacement is the way to go.
