@robsonterry connect an external monitor and see if that shows your OS properly. If so, you know that the issue is your screen. If not then the issue is with the display circuitry on your motherboard. Here is the ThinkPad S230u Hardware Maintenance Manual that will help to work on your computer. Now, if the issue should be with your video circuitry, we would need to know what numbers are in your computer. It could be a Compal L-8671 but you need to verify that for us by looking at your board.
