Electric release switch that operates engine compartment lid not working.

In a quiet garage have someone press the button while you are standing near the hood latch location, do you hear the solenoid firing? Press on the hood to see if that helped in hearing it.
If you do the latch is not clearing. Did you get your cars front banged?
If don't check the fuse and if it's good check the continuity from the fuse panel contact to the chassis ground when you press the button. Does either work?
