How to fix locking slide

The slide lock on a Makita LS1013 fails to lock when the clamping mechanism, threaded rod, or internal cam inside the slide assembly wears out, binds, or loses adjustment.

Common Causes and Fixes

• Loose or Backed-Off Knob: The black slide lock knob can unthread or back off the internal rod, meaning it runs out of travel before applying enough pressure to grip the slide rails. Turn the knob fully to tighten and check if the internal linkage engages.
• Jammed or Worn Cam: Over-tightening the lock over time can cause the slide tube or internal cam to stick or distort inside the housing. You may need to remove the assembly, clean out accumulated dust, and inspect the internal metal parts.
• Debris and Rust Build-up: Wood dust and debris inside the slide lock channel prevent the clamping mechanism from making full contact with the rails. Blow out the area with compressed air and clean the slide poles.
