Background and Identification

The Motorola Moto G5 is a fifth generation budget level entry into Motorola’s “G” line of smartphones, with their flagship being the Moto G5 Plus. The Moto G5 is a simplified and less powerful version of the plus version, featuring a 5 inch 1080p display, an aluminum backplate, a fingerprint sensor, a 2800mAh battery, 2 or 3Gb of RAM, a 13MP main camera with phase detection autofocus and a 5MP selfie camera with a wide-angle lens for group shots.

The Moto G5 also supports 2 GSM sim cards, rapid charging through micro USB, up to 128GB of expandable microSD storage, as well as the standard 3.5mm headphone jack with side volume controls. The stock operating system is Android 7.0 “Nougat”, and it has support for updating to Android 8.0 “Oreo”. One of the major shortcomings of this phone is its terrible speaker quality, and it has a slower Snapdragon 430 CPU and Adreno 505 GPU. One noticeable feature is the implementation of Lenovo’s “One-button nav”, which allows the user to perform many basic functions using only the fingerprint sensor.

The phone is not natively available to the US, but you can purchase the Moto G5 online since it is compatible with most US GSM networks. Motorola has since released the Moto G5S, which has mostly obsoleted this phone.
