Hi,
Check the information at the following setting:
Menu > Settings > scroll down to About Phone > Model Number
Here you should find information regarding the model of your phone.

No such About Phone menu item on mine. It’s a flip phone and I have no idea how to tell it’s model?

Try removing the battery and see what is written on the phone underneath where the battery was.
Tellsonly model number,serial number etc. NOT the NAME of the version which is what I need to know.

Did you try searching for "Alcatel (insert model number)" to see what the results say about which model name it is?

Have you inserted the SIM card?
If you have, verify that it is inserted correctly. Here is an image taken from the Alcatel One Touch Pop Icon User Guide that shows how to do it.
(click on image to enlarge for better viewing).
If it is inserted correctly, try inserting a different, network compatible known working SIM card to check if the phone detects it OK and try your SIM card in another known working network compatible phone to prove that your SIM card is OK or not.
Basically swap the SIM cards between two same network phones and see what works where.

doesn't work when my phone says no sim card inserted, after I activated the phone.

None of these answers apply. I have a Alcatel cell phone flip phone style made in 2017 from China. i have looked under the battery there are several sets of number none of which state it is a model number only an IMEI: NUMBER
So now what?

Hi @beajay,
Try "Googling" those numbers and check the result.
If no result Google "Alcatel (insert a number)" and check the result.
Try all the numbers found.
Also take a picture of the phone and try a Google Image search using the picture and check if there are any results.
Is the phone network locked to one provider? if so check their website for any Alcatel Flip phones they sold/provided etc and see if there is a match.
