So when I turn on my Xbox then about 4-7 seconds it turn off? I’m think it’s something with the motherboard or the power supply this started about a week ago and had my Xbox over a year now.

My Xbox one S turns off after a couple of minutes have gone by and I don’t know why. I went online and read what the problems may be but it continues to turn off

из

Any updates because I think it could be the power cable or fan or battery supply but I have no idea

из

I changed the power supply and the heat sink but no luck at this point I think their is something wrong with the motherboard.

из

looking back at the video posted I notice your fan starts up and mine doesn't do that at all I as well will try the power supply and new cord soon

из

You’re fan is clogged or broken, mine did this and I went out and bought a small house fan that I lay on top of the vent.

Hello friends, so I had this EXACT same problem with my Xbox. I’m not sure why it was happening but I what I tried to do is take a blow dryer on max heat and put it over the fan area for about 10-20 seconds and then try turning on the Xbox. IT WORKED! I’m not sure why, but I really suggest trying it if you have the same issue as OP.

Worked for me. Ridiculous fix.

из

This worked. Its actually an old school trick for solid state devices. I took the xbox and put it up undisturbed for the summer because I wanted my kids active.

Lo and behold I set it back up and light came on the immediately off.

I was furious. I don't fix things I smash them. Soooo... Thanks bud.

Saved me a few hundred.

из

Oh Jesus my xbox doesn’t even u turn on now somebody please do help

из

Thankyou thankyou thankyou sosososo much.it worked i was so frightened but it worked.you are god thanks

из

EVERYONE! STOP BLOW DRYING YOUR XBOX!! This performs a relflow of the solder underneth the main apu. while this fixes some sytems, they usually only work for a few of days, hours, or even mins! The other problem is that you are not only reflowing the apu, your also reflowing things like the south bridge, and outher chips. This can cause MAJOR problems, and is bad. So dont blow dry your xbox. send it in to microsoft, or, take it to your local game console repair shop.

This is typical a protection either in the power supply - you need to reset it. But in the video it is obvious that the fan is not spinning, the fan in the XBox One S spins immediately after startup.

I have the same issue. I already replaced the power cable and power supply and neither one of them worked. I continued to look into it and a lot of people are saying the GPU is most likely fried.

из

If the fan doesn't start up right away put a blow dry on it for about a min and it will start up right away. The fan that comes with the xbox one s are having a lot of issues

из

The blow dryer on cold trick didn't work for me. The fan pulsed a few times and then stopped.

Pressing power makes the start up and then shut down sound 1 second apart. (Sometimes more or less but very short timing.)

PSU 11.94V, White Light, Start Beep, Then Turn Off Beep

I then proceeded to try to hot air rework the MOSFETs. I think I need to buy new ones.

I did a multimeter reading on the power rail for the CPU / GPU and they read 0.2 or 0.7 ohms or something VERY low, like a short circuit.

So it is likely that the power protection circuit kicks in as Al van der Laan says.

This might not be a simple fix. :|

I just bought a xbox one x today and mine is doing that straight out the box,

Press the power button it lights up beeps then 5 secs later it turns off

rang m$ and went through trouble shooting but nothing and he said hes never heard of this issue

из

I’ve had mine for one day. Played for a little when I got. Came home from work today to play and nothing. I’ve tried everything. All the tricks. Blow dryer, switching hdmi port on tv and unplugging power cord. Nothing. What could be the problem?

The HDD is on the same power line as the HDMI Port, so if the HDD has failed the Xbox will not remain on and will give no dispaly. My issue was that the xbox turned on for a few seconds, I had no display, then it just turned off again. After replacing the HDD it tuned on directly to the system error screen as I did not have the OS installed on the new HDD. Hopefully that works for some of you.

I found out that plowing all the dust out of the internal areas helps a lot. I barely got mine to start while doing that. Some try putting something like a air compressor and plow it all out.

The blower thing worked for me. I have a thing called the CompuCleaner, basically a hair dryer w/o the heating element. I just blasted it all around the vents in the console for a few seconds and the Xbox finally would boot up.

Thank you!! Had given up on all options but gave the cold blow dryer trick a chance. Used the cold blow dryer on all vents for 40-50 seconds and connected the Xbox to power after 5 minutes. Booted up like a charm. Thank you again!

Hey John,

I currently have the same issue with my Xbox and I just noticed that as soon as you turn it on the fan tries to run and stops which is telling the system that the fan is not working and to prevent it from overheating it shuts off. I thought it was a power supply issue also and replaced it. I still have the same exact issue, so Thanks for your video because you seem to have helped me see what the issue may be and for 20 bucks I think it is worth a shot. Hope this helps!

I don't know why this is happening I never touched the fan but I will see if I can replace it because I cannot play now maybe it's because I play for about 16 to 18 hours a day because I'm too young for s job but it never overheats it's always fine and maybe a bit warm but not hot I don't have money for this plus my parent won't help me because my uncle always says that it's my fault yet it's not. I will see if there is Free solution to it.

Does it let you get to the reset menu?

  1. Press and hold the BIND button (located on the left side of the console) and the EJECTbutton (located on the front of the console), and then press the Xbox  button on the console.
  2. Continue holding the BIND and EJECT buttons for 10-15 seconds.
  3. Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart

If done correctly it should take you to the menu screen. There you can properly restart it or reset it.

Yes, what is the next step after? It will turn on then off. The fan spins and will go into safe mode.

I have solved this issue on my console, I took all the covers off of the Xbox and connected the power supply and disconnected the hard drive and turned it on but it still turned off then I unplugged the disk drive and turned it on again and to my amazement it stayed on so I then tried to connect the disk drive while it was on and it turned off again so I unplugged the disk drive and left it unplugged.. problem solved

Most likely main board fried Or faulty fan ? Only way is to try another fan first to see if fixes problem...if PCB fried ... cheaper just by a new Xbox....Xbox one s run too hot ...buy first model second hand! Less problems.

I get the exact same problem and I've had it for just two weeks

I did the hot air blow dryer thing, the compressed air thing also and what eventually what fixed mine was smacking it right on top of where the fan is while it was trying to power up!

I’ve had exactly the same problem with my Xbox One S. I’ve tried absolutely everything that was on my hands, even changing the power source for another non-Xbox one (a normal PC power source). And nothing worked.

I did the opening, the cleaning, putting a big fan (ventilator) on top of it, running it without the fan at all, replacing the hard drive, everything… or that is what I’ve though…

… until I saw this post and the message from Ryan Gilbert here above. And voilà!

It seems that the problem is the internal circuits providing the current to the Disk-Drive, because I can clearly see that when the Disk-Drive power cable is disconnected, the Xbox runs fine (to be honest, is still under test), and with it connected, it stops.

It seems that it’s only the power line for the Disk Drive and not for the HDD, although I can’t be sure as I’m still testing it, and I took the chance to change to an SSD which needs less current, so if the problem was there for the HDD maybe it’s no longer for the SSD.

The positive thing is that keeping the SATA cable connected and feeding the drive with an external source (or bridging the connection directly to the main power source) perhaps the problem is solved and we do not lose the Disk-Drive unit. However, I have not yet tested that.

The happiness last for 10 minutes… It turned off again…

из

Well, I can now definitely confirm that the problem is the current source to the drives (both HDD and Disk). Unplugging the power cables and feeding the HDD (SSD in my case) with an external 5V source shows the Xbox running smoothly for at least the last 10 minutes, including playing one Cupheads level.

Regarding how I feed the HDD, it is more or less easy: the cable black and yellow are the grounds, the red and blue are both feeding constantly 5V.

Now I will need to find how the Disk-Drive is feeded, because it has more cables and it looks that different Voltage levels.

I had this issue too. Would turn on my xbox one S the fan would kick on then a few seconds later it would power down. My unit was way past warranty so I decided to look into repairing it myself. After watching about 2 hour worth of xbox dismantle and possible repair videos I felt confident enough to take a look inside. A few specialty tools are required and definately a decent level of patience. I completely dismantled the unit into all of its pieces. Dusted everything with canned air. Inspected for any obvious burnt out pieces or components. What I found was the heat sync had dried out the thermal paste between the two units. After cleaning the old paste off, reapplying new, and then reassembling. My xbox has worked for three months now with no issues. The most helpful video I found was (Xbox One S Disassembly and Replacing Thermal 2016) by Geek Sauce or (Xbox One S Detailed Assembly - Replacing Thermal Paste) by TronicsFix. These videos offer helpful tips on dismantle and cleaning components. Hope this helps someone else out there. It was hard to find an answer outside of turn it off then back on or try a hair dryer non-sense.

using the blow dryer (Cold Air) for a few sends fixed my problem

Most of these problems sound like the faceplate. (power button/disc eject) I was having the powering on and off randomly problem like most of the people on here. Make sure you eject any disc in your drive first and then remove the faceplate and ribbon entirely. Replacement ribbons are like $9 with the adhesive. It seems like the ribbons get faulty or the power button itself kinda melts from heat and leaves a residue on the ribbon creating an almost circuit. (I watched mine power on and off untouched for 3 minutes randomly) After removing the faceplate entirely my console has been running for around 2 hours without an issue. Since you have to disassemble it anyways, gently blow out your vents, board, and fan. (including the vents on your power supply brick) I feel like most of these issues are on the surface fixes, but this is microsoft we are talking about.

If your console beeps and then turns off with out the fan turning on, your console thinks its going to over heat and turns off. More then likely one of two things is happening

  • your fan is busted
  • your thermal paste needs replacement (very likely)

I would try the paste first as it is the more affordable repair and very easy. Follow this guide on how to take it apart. Clean off your crusted paste with 99% isopropyl alcohol and a clean toothbrush or non-static cloth. Replace it with a pea-sized bit of thermal paste (available at Best Buy and the sort on short notice). Put it together and power it up. Just did this for a customer and it worked.

If this is not a solution, source your fan using parts number located on the side of the fan component. In the unlikely even it is your power supply that has gone bad, use the same method to source that part.

Lots of people saying a hair drier or heat gun or canned air as a temporary fix. This is a temporary fix and I don’t recommend it.

Be sure to keep your console in a clean and ventilated area (read: not on the floor where cat hair and cockroaches can get to it).

Hope this is helpful to any future peeps.
