Sounds like your screen went kaput. You’re better off just getting a new multimeter as I saw some multimeters going for under 10$ on Amazon.

Due to the dust being stuck behind the display, sometimes there is a connection problem, and the text gets cut off. In that case, you should - wipe the rubber connector on the back of the multimeter display with a soft cloth and clean the place of the display connection on the board with petrol.
If the method does not work, then your multimeter IC is damaged. You need to buy a new multimeter because the IC cannot be changed.
