Data Recovery from a Dead Ipad

Please I have an iPad Air 1, with a damaged charging port, as a result the battery has gone dead and I'm unable to charge it up.

I have researched on how to replace the charging port of an iPad Air 1 and I learnt it involves some microsoldering techniques which can be quite difficult. I have taken it to several repair shops and they are unable to help me out as they lack the necessary skills.

Right now, I am looking for any possible means to recover my data from the iPad as I unfortunately do not have an iCloud back up.

The options I am evaluating includes.

  1. Buying an iPad Air 1 Battery replacement and changing the battery out, hoping that the new battery has some juice in it enough to power the battery to allow me recover my documents, but the downside is that with a damaged charging port, I may not be able to connect to a PC to get what I need.
  2. To Buy a completely New iPad Air 1, and possibly open it up, to swap the motherboard and any other parts that may be useful and contributes to the storage from the old iPad onto the new one, with hopes of being able to restore all my lost data. But I don't know how feasible this is, and whether it's even possible.

Please at the moment, I'm out of options and need help. I am open to any suggestions. Thank you.

@dralfred this "To Buy a completely New iPad Air 1, and possibly open it up, to swap the motherboard and any other parts that may be useful and contributes to the storage from the old iPad onto the new one, with hopes of being able to restore all my lost data. But I don't know how feasible this is, and whether it's even possible", is not possible. All the data is stored on your logic board on some encrypted IC's. Moving any of the IC's would be far more complicated microsoldering than the damaged charging port ;-)

The only way you get your data off is by getting the iPad turned on. After that you could try to transfer your files via Wi_fi or via iCloud drive. How to Share Files Between iPad and PC via iCloud Drive

On your iPad, go to the "Settings" app and select [your name] > "iCloud".

Scroll enable "iCloud Drive".

Open the "Files" app and select "Browse" > "iCloud Drive". Search for the files you attempt to copy to your PC and upload them to iCloud Drive.

If you have downloaded and set up iCloud for Windows, go to the iCloud Drive folder in File Explorer to access the files from your iPhone. If not, go to iCloud.com, sign in with your Apple ID, choose "iCloud Drive" among the options and then select and download the files to your PC. from here

Thank you so much @oldturkey03 for your response.

That means I'm stuck with either changing the charging port, or attempting to change the battery with hopes that the iPad comes on, so I could transfer the files using WiFi or iCloud drive.

Please can you make any recommendations of someone who's proficient with microsoldering who can handle the replacement of the charging port.

That would go along way to help. Thank you so much.

@dralfred yes, those are essentially your options. Where in the world are you located?

I'm at Nigeria (Africa).

@dralfred I am not aware of any board level repair service even close to your location. I am sure they exist but we are just not yet aware of them. If you can ship it, I would suggest RESQ in Germany. Maybe my colleagues @strongbow @tech_ni @simone can make other suggestions.
