Background and Identification
Honda was established as a leading producer of motorcycles during the 1950s and began production of automobiles in 1963. The Honda Insight is a hybrid electric vehicle manufactured by Honda. The first-generation Honda Insight (1999-2006) was released as a two-door, two-passenger liftback and in its second generation (2009-2014) as a four-door, five-passenger liftback. The third-generation Honda Insight was released as a four-door sedan model. The Insight was Honda’s first model with an Integrated Motor Assist system and the most fuel-efficient gasoline-powered car available in the United States without plug-in capabilities for the length of its production.
The second-generation Honda Insight was the least expensive hybrid available in the United States and the United Kingdom. During April 2009, the Insight was the top-selling vehicle in Japan, the first time a hybrid vehicle claimed the spot. 143,015 Insight vehicles were sold during its first twelve months available outside the Japanese market.
The second-generation Honda Insight (2010-2014) also goes by the generation names ZE2/ZE3. In the United States, these Insight models are classified as compact cars based on interior volume. The 2010 Honda Insight was designed to make hybrid technology more affordable for more buyers. The second-generation Insight is a five-passenger, five-door hybrid vehicle that includes the fifth generation of Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid powertrain.
Honda automobiles can be identified by the Honda emblem, which depicts an ‘H’ inside a rectangle with soft corners. Honda Insight vehicles include the name “Insight” in capital letters on the left-hand side of the car’s rear, and the word “hybrid” is generally included on the right-hand side of the vehicle’s rear to indicate that the car is a hybrid vehicle.
