@pbw from what it sounds like, this could be your AC adapter (charger) not supplying power to your computer. That would explain why your battery does not charge and your computer does not turn on with it plugged in. Measure the output of the AC adapter (charger) at the barrel connector. It should measure 19V. Negative on the outside and positive on the inside of the barrel adapter. If you have the proper power on that end, you will have to take a close look at the DC in jack on your computer. To work on that, use these guides [[Topic:Gateway NV52]] to get to it.
