I have had my fans go on more than I like as well and my MacBook Pro runs hotter than I like at times. Since it has been thoroughly vetted by Apple, I have found using "smcFanControl" has solved the issue for me. It allows me to have the fan at slightly higher speeds and hence it never get as hot and hence the fans don't start racing.
