-Was your 9V charger have a ''correctly wired'' USB-C output plug?
+Was your 9V charger configured to use a ''correctly wired'' USB-C output plug?

If not then the phone's battery management IC wouldn't know that it was a 9V supply being connected and therefore would be expecting the nominal 5V supply and you would have damaged it.
You may have to check the charge port board in the phone to find out.
