Motorola is famous for using very strong adhesive on the back glass. I've found that making sure the area you are prying is as hot as you can possibly stand (just barely too hot too hold) and using a safety razor to pry up the back glass. I'd also pry at the top to avoid puncturing the battery, and then switch to a thin plastic piece to cut the glue along the edges, like this one: [product|IF145-101]

It looks like it kind of opens from the screen on step one. The area where the SIM tray is will have thinner plastic, so it'll be a bit easier to get it to come off. just be careful around the volume controls, and I wouldn't use anything metal since you could puncture the battery.
