Painting is a messy process, and it is inevitable for someone’s clothes to get dirty. Most painters tend to wear an apron or smock to prevent their clothes from getting covered in paint. For those who do not have either of those, this guide can be used again and again to clean oil paint off clothes using ordinary household products.

    • Use a palette knife to scrape off the wet paint.

    • For best results, begin this process as soon as possible after staining your clothes to prevent the paint from drying entirely.

    • Soak a cotton ball with the oil paint solvent, and then gently blot at the stain.

    • Caution: Oil paint solvents exude toxic fumes and can cause skin dryness or cracking upon repeated contact. Perform this step in a well-ventilated area while wearing gloves.

    • Soak the area of the stain with cold water.

    • Pour a small amount of dish soap onto the stain.
