Disassembling a tablet often requires some gentle prying of the frame. Be sure to exercise care during these first few steps(disassembling), and do not lose your screws! The Paperwhite is a sturdy tablet that can be broken down into just a few components. This guide will show you in just five short steps how to replace a faulty battery.

  1. Insert plastic opening tool into the corners of the Paperwhite and slide around the edge perimeter to remove bezel. Be sure to begin prying along the outer edges , these are the optimal points for removing the bezel.

Do you have a source for the battery itself? Thank you.

I’ve done this on two different Kindles with the same result: dead kindle. No matter how long it stays on the charger, the light stays amber. Screen will not change. Hard reset seems to do nothing; the light flashes, but no change. One Paperwhite even got a new motherboard. This is crazy! Is it possible to fix one, do I have to just buy another!?

Hi Adam,

I have the same issue, the light is orange but the Kindle won’t turn on. I ordered the battery at www.batteryupgrade.com. But they have some misleading info on their website so they sent me the wrong battery even if it states that it supports Kindle Paperwhite 2012. Check the connections on original and on the new battery. In my case the battery looks the same, but the connections doesn’t. Now I’m waiting for the new one …

Regards.
