Use one plastic opening tool to slightly pry up the left control key and use another plastic opening tool to push the fasteners out of the way so that the keyboard begins to pop up

This is the hardest step and may take some time. You don't want to pop off the control key; just use enough pressure so that the keyboard will come up past each fastener when it gets the chance.
