Where do you guys get your training? LOL - the copper tape is for EMI shielding & grounding, it has NOTHING to do with CPU heat dissipation.

I would think the flashing is ground off and then the casings are polished up :)

Someone needs to tell Apple that ALL EARS are ANALOGUE - it doesn't matter how the sound gets up to the transducers, because they just turn it back into analogue sound pressure. What a fools errand all round.

I am an Apple user, I love most of their products, but this is just utterly STUPID.

I have one perfectly working iPhone 5S, a perfectly working set of EarPods with Remote and Mic (and two more brand new, sealed, for spares) and I have ZERO intention of "upgrading" to anything "better". In fact, I'll shortly be going back to a Nokia 3510i I would think (no, I am not joking) because this obsession with a "central distraction hub" is shortening my attention span, STEALING my time and to be honest, it's all just overrated, non-vital guff that people have become seduced by for no good reason.

With respect, iFixit, leave the puns to us English folks, your attempts are extremely contrived and... well... they don't work and detract from the articles you feel the urge to force them into. PLEASE, just don't try to be funny - we come here to see things stripped down, not for comedy - others do it way better.

GOLD contacts, not copper; the copper is the underlying substrate that is the PCB trace.

It appears you do not grasp the concept of why repair guides are created:

~1 Some people (like me) just LOVE knowing how things work - that's how we become engineers, and are able to repair things and design other things, make informed decisions (which we can confidently pass on to others with less inclination or interest to know this stuff.)

~2 Because repairing your own device teaches you independence and VALUABLE skills which are transferable and profitable, and also enjoyable to learn and practice.

It's also fine to be a consumer who DOESN'T, but it's illogical for you to criticise or chastise those who DO take them apart, kapish?

You know what? As a repair and service engineer of 25 years, I wouldn't let iFixit ANYWHERE NEAR my Magic Mouse if they think that spinning it around on its back is a good idea - that'll scratch the plastic top shell - WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT, YOU CRAZY PEOPLE? Talk about stupid - that video is just a staff member showing off, trying to make the video "interesting" - well don't - we are not fools.

I wonder how much caffeine iFixit editors drink before writing up the copy, since the "unfunny-isms" seem to be in place, as usual - failed attempts to be "quirky and witty" fall flat on their faces. If you'd focus on the hardware, there's plenty of comedians in the world, and - sorry to say - you fail at any hope of putting them out of work.

It was NEVER silver painted plastic. Maybe you should have a closer look - VERY thin, hardened aluminium can appear _like_ plastic, but be assured - it's REAL aluminium. This isn't HP here.
