Lenovo G650 Troubleshooting

Windows 8 Lenovo G650, manufactured 2010.

Computer Will Not Power On

The laptop does not respond to the “Power” button being pressed.

Faulty Adapter

Ensure the adapter is properly connected to the laptop and the other end is connected to a working power outlet. If the light on the adapter is not present, consider purchasing a new adapter.

Faulty Battery

Check the battery’s ability to hold a charge by plugging in the laptop using the charging adapter. If the laptop powers up only when the adapter is plugged in, the battery is faulty. See this guide on how to replace a faulty battery. (Insert link)

CD’s and DVD’s Not Readable

Your Lenovo G650 does not read discs

No Display

The screen/monitor is completely dark on your Lenovo G650, while the “power on” button is lit.

Disabled Display

First thing to check is to make sure the display is not disabled. One way to verify is by press the “Fn” keys located in the lower left corner of the keyboard and then press “F2”. If by any chance the display was disabled, this step will bring your display back up.

Malfunctioning Optical Drive

If your Lenovo G650 optical drive does not play/read your CD’s or DVD’s or the drive does not open, then the drive may be broken and a replacement is needed.

If the above steps don’t fix the issue, repeat the steps above, followed by holding down the “Windows” key, and then pressing the “P” key twice. This will set the computer to “computer only” and disabled it from “projector mode”.

If the above steps don’t fix the issue, another thing to try would be by restarting the laptop. First go to settings, then select the “restart” option.

Audio System

You experience software interference when using the audio system.

Check Volume Controls

Customers will press the mute button on a keyboard and not even notice. The keyboard is more convenient for increasing volume or pressing mute. As obvious as it sounds, you should probably check the volume controls in Windows and on your external speakers, if you are using those.

Run the Troubleshoot

To repair audio you should troubleshoot the page. Select the start button, and type troubleshoot. Than select the trouble shoot from result lists. Select the playing audio, than re-run the program to make operational again.

Fan is Overheating

While you working, your CPU overheats from dust build up from the fan.

Dust in Fan

Wipe out dust inside your case (and fans/heat sink) using a can of compressed air.

Heat sink/Thermal paste

As the computer overheats, between the CPU and heat sink there could be a small amount of thermal paste not being applied to fill the microscopic gaps between a computer's CPU and its heat sink. Carefully apply more grease to prevent damaging the laptop.

Faulty Keyboard

Try using the attached guide to replace keyboard keys that are failing to respond.

Keys Are Stuck

If the keys are hard to press or if they are stuck down on the keyboard and won't go up, then you might need to remove each key individually and clean beneath it using an alcohol pad. Once it’s clean under the key, you have to push the key back into place.

Missing Keys

If there are missing keys on the keyboard, you can simply replace them by placing the new key over the area of the first one and simply pushing it down into place.
