Computer Failing to Power Up

The laptop will not turn on when the adapter is plugged in.

Faulty Power Adapter

Plug in the power adapter to the laptop, and to a working wall outlet. If the led light on the laptop does not light up, assume the power adapter is faulty, and look into replacing it with a new one.

Faulty Battery

If the power adapter is plugged in, and the led light is on but the laptop still does not power on, assume that the battery is faulty and should be replaced. Refer to this Battery Replacement guide.

Keyboard or Keys not Responding

The keys on the keyboard are not responding, or are broken/missing.

Faulty Keyboard

If the entire keyboard seems to be unresponsive, consider replacing it using this Keyboard Replacement guide.

Keys are Stuck

If the key is stuck after being pressed, try pressing on the key a few times to see if it will come back up. If this fails to work, remove the key itself, and proceed to wipe down underneath the key with a cotton swab dipped in 95% isopropyl rubbing alcohol as to not damage any electronics.

If the key is unable to be pressed down, remove the key itself, and remove any extra material from underneath the key. If need be, proceed to wipe down underneath the key with a cotton swab dipped in 95% isopropyl rubbing alcohol as to not damage any electronics.

Missing Key(s)

Should any key(s) be missing or damaged, consider purchasing new ones and replacing them through our key removal guide.

Laptop is Having Trouble Booting Up/Slowing Down

The laptop is operational (battery is holding charge and fans are spinning), but the screen is black, frozen, or laptop shuts down automatically.

Faulty Processor

Depending on the condition of the laptop and the environment that it is used in, the fans may just need to be cleaned as they could be full of dust or debris, causing the processor to overheat. Refer to this Fan Replacement guide.

Components fail over time, after checking the fans, look into getting a new processor. You can refer to the Processor Replacement guide for instructions on how to do this.

If laptop was charging when a power surge happened, this could cause the processor to break down and fail. Refer to the Processor Replacement guide for more instructions.

Faulty RAM

In the case of your laptop slowing down, freezing, or randomly restarting, your RAM might be damaged or in need of an upgrade. Refer to this RAM Replacement guide on how to locate and swap out your RAM.

Optical Drive Not Reading Disks

The optical drive is unable to open or close, or cannot read disks.

Malfunctioning Optical Drive

Common problems that can occur with Optical Drives are failure to close/open properly, inability to close/open all the way (getting jammed), or if disks are not being read. Refer to this Optical Drive Replacement guide for more information on how to approach this dilemma.
