This is probably the cause of the problem in your computer. If this doesn't fix it, then come back on the issue.

If the video card doesn't fix it, then I'd look into the screen. It's usually not the screen though. However, it can cause this problem. If you wanted to check without a GPU, then shine a flashlight at the screen and see if you get an image. If you do, it's probably the screen. If not, it's a bad screen altogether or a bad graphics card.

These iMacs should use a MXM graphics card. However, don't fully count on this. Apple likes to flip flop on soldering the card and using MXM. I don't know what it is about Apple, but as such you need to open the iMac to check.

Look on the bottom of the computer. You'll find your serial number there. If you have the box, check there too.

While I did have trouble finding your Mac by the serial number and EMC number I will say I know thte 2009 iMac uses ATI Radeon video cards. It's also likely MXM 2.0 too. What you want to do is find the same card you have now, or a known compatible card. Then you'll want to get it replaced. If your video card is the issue, this should fix it.
