Keyboard/Keys Not Responding Correctly

Some or all of the keys on the keyboard will not respond when pressed.

Connections of the Keys are Distorted

Pressing certain keys and finding physical resistance may be a sign of physical entities obstructing the connections. Remove the key-caps from the keys that do not work properly. Check for signs of dust or crumbs that may be obstructing the mechanical components of the keys such as the plastic retainer or rubber gasket. Use compressed air or a cotton swab to gently remove the foreign entities.

Mechanical Components of the Keys are Broken

The mechanical components of the individual keys such as the retainer or rubber gasket may be broken or misplaced. Remove the key caps from the keys that do not work. Analyze the key retainers for broken parts or loose connections. Upon finding a broken retainer or loose connection, follow this guide to replace the parts.

Faulty keyboard

If all the keys of the keyboard fail to respond it needs to be replaced. Follow this guide to replace the keyboard.

Short Battery Life

Battery doesn't keep its charge

Battery could be drained

By leaving your laptop plugged in all the time, yes you are charging your laptop but you are also draining the battery. In this case, you might want to perform a power reset on your laptop to try  troubleshooting the real problem. This reset helps drain all the power in your laptop.

A power reset includes turning off your laptop, disconnecting the adapter then battery from your laptop. Next leave the laptop off for 30 seconds then reassemble battery and adapter. Now turn on the laptop and charge your device; once the device catches its charge, you are able to use your laptop again. If problem persists, you may need to replace the battery. To be sure, make sure it is the battery not the A/C adapter.
There could be a faulty wire in your A/C adapter that isn't letting your laptop keep its charge. First things first we want to make sure that the charger is plugged into a working outlet. Second, connect your charger to the laptop and try having run just on the charger alone. This battery must be dead in order to perform this test. Third, If the laptop doesn't hold the charge while its plugged in, you might have a faulty A/C Adapter. If your A/C adapter is short, you may want to go ahead and getting it replaced as soon as possible because keeping a faulty charger connected to your laptop could also drain your battery leading up to a battery replacement. It’s like trying to run on a sprained knee. Sooner or later, you're going to damage your knee further and eventually have to replace the knee later on.

Disc Drive Fails to Read Discs

The Disc Drive is not reading discs properly on the computer

The Computer does not Properly Recognize a Disc

Open up the laptop and insert a disc that you know holds information in it. Wait for the computer to display a pop-up message on the bottom right corner of the screen. This message should announce that the computer has read the disc properly, if not continue on.

The Disc is either dirty or has smudges on the back end

The Disc Drive may be having trouble reading the disc due either smudges or the disc is dirty on it’s back-end. Take a small, clean cloth and dampen a small area of the cloth. Hold the disc by the rim and use the damp area of the cloth to wipe the disc starting from the center and moving outward gradually. Use the dry area of the cloth to clean the remaining water residue that may be on the disc in the same motion as before and then insert the disc into the disc drive If the disc drive continues to fail continue on.

Faulty Disc Drive

The disc drive is faulty and must be replaced. Follow this guide to replace the disc drive.

Screen Randomly Goes Blank

The screen goes blank every time the computer reboots.

There could be physical damage to the screen

If you are rebooting your computer and can hear the computer starting up without the screen turning on, one or two things could be the cause. The first issue is that there could be physical damage to the screen either on the outside or inside of the laptop. So you may want to check to see if there is damage to the laptop in or around the screen. If there isn't, proceed to the next common issue. The second issue is that you just have a malfunctioning LCD screen in your laptop. In this case, you might want to replace the screen on the laptop itself

Brightness is Set to Lowest Settings

Check to see if the brightness setting of the LCD display is at the lowest setting. If so, the screen will be barely lit. While the computer is booted up, hold the “Fn” key on the bottom left corner of the keyboard on the right of the “Ctrl” key. The lettering will be a bright orange. When holding the “Fn” key press the up arrow key found on the bottom right corner of the keyboard simultaneously. Doing this should increase the brightness of the screen. If all else fails the screen may need to be replaced.

The Charger Port Does Not Work

The Charging Port for the laptop does not work and the laptop cannot charge

The Adapter Could be Faulty

The AC/DC adapter built into the charger cable could be faulty or broken. This can occur from the adapter overheating to the point at which it damages its internals, breaking the adapter and charger. This means that the charger will not work, and the laptop will not charge. The only solution for this problem is replacing the charger cable by purchasing a new cable.

The Battery Could Be Faulty

If the laptop is not charging, but you have confirmed that the charger cable is functioning, another problem could be the battery has failed in some way. If this is so, you must replace the battery (be careful, as lithium ion batteries react violently to sudden damage) using this guide. If the battery is swollen, remember to take appropriate precautions and treat it gently.

The Charger Port Could be Faulty

If the battery and charger cable are confirmed to be in working order, then the problem lies with the charger port itself. The solution to a faulty charger port is to replace the port with a new, functioning one. The guide on replacing the charger port can be found here.
