Computer Won’t Power On
The laptop power button will not respond when pressed and does not show any sign of powering up.
Battery is Dead
If the laptop is not powering on when you press the power button, try plugging the laptop in with the provided power adapter. If it will turn on while plugged in but not charge, the battery may be dead. Consider replacing the battery.
Broken Power Adapter
If the laptop will not turn on while the power adapter is plugged in or the light on the power adapter does not turn on while plugged in, the power adapter may be broken. Consider purchasing a new one.
Motherboard is Broken
If the laptop still does not power on after the power adapter and battery have been checked, there may be a problem with the motherboard.
Computer is dying quickly
The computer fails to charge when connected to the charger.
Power Saver Mode is Turned Off
Battery Saver is a battery saving power mode that turns off unused applications to save the battery’s charging power. To check if the power saver mode is turned off, go to “Settings” and click the “System” tab. Under this tab, you should see the “Battery Saver” toggle, which you can turn from Off to On.
Brightness Level is Too High
If the brightness level for the screen is too high, the laptop’s power will drain faster. You can adjust the brightness by pressing down on the “Function key” on the keypad and pressing the downward arrow key on the keyboard to lower the screen’s brightness. If this does not work, you can check click on the computer’s “Settings” and select the “Display” tab. Under the “Brightness and Color” heading, you will find a slider that allows you to adjust the laptop screen’s brightness. Move it to the left to turn down the brightness and save the computer’s battery charge.
Faulty Charger
Try charging a familiar device with the same charging cord you used with the laptop to verify that it functions properly. If the cord cannot charge your other device, it is most likely faulty and a new one should be purchased.
Faulty Battery
Plug your laptop in using a charger that you know works. If the laptop still does not charge, this is a sign of a faulty battery and the battery needs to be replaced.
Receiving “Low Disk Space” Error during Operation
If you are running out of room on your hard drive, you may start getting errors that you are running out of hard disk space.
Too Many Programs Installed
The easiest solution to clear up your hard drive is to delete old programs that you no longer use. Programs can often take up a lot of useful hard drive space so it may be best to go through and decide if you still need all of them installed.
On Windows 10, this can be done by performing the following steps:
- Open the Start Menu.
- Click Settings.
- Click System in the Settings menu.
- Click Apps & features. This will display all of the installed programs on the computer on the right.
- Select a program that you would like to uninstall.
- Click the Uninstall button under the program name.
- Select Uninstall in the pop-up menu.
Be careful to only uninstall apps that you have installed yourself as deleting important Windows applications may affect the Operating System.
Delete Temporary Files
Another solution may be to run the Disk Space Utility, which you can find by searching for it in the Start Menu tab. Using this program will help to delete unnecessary temporary files that are piling up on your Hard Drive. Follow the instructions within the program to safely remove any temporary files you may not need anymore.
Hard Drive Space is too Small
If you have deleted all the unnecessary programs and are still out of hard drive space, you may need to install a larger Hard Drive into your laptop.
Keypad is unresponsive
The keys on the keyboard will not respond or appear to be broken or missing.
Faulty Keyboard
If the entire keyboard fails to respond, replace it using this guide.
Keys Are Stuck
When you cannot press down on the keys, there may be something below the physical key holding it up. To fix this, remove the key and make sure nothing is stuck below it. You may need to wipe off the area underneath. Once it is clean, snap the key back into position.
Computer is Getting Too Hot
After some time of use computer will heat up more than it used to.
Using Too Many Programs at Once
If you are using programs that use more RAM than your computer can handle, it may cause the computer to overheat because it is trying to keep up with everything running. To mitigate this issue, trying installing more RAM.
Using Computer in High Heat
If the room where you are operating is above regular room temperature, this may mean the computer is getting is absorbing the heat and will heat up more than regular. To fix this, move the computer to a cooler area where it will not heat up.
Computer Fan is Not Working
If you notice that computer’s fan is not emitting any sound this may mean it is not working. Use this guide in order to replace it.
Fan is Not Working
If the computer is overheating it might be caused by the fan not working or the room is too hot for a laptop to be used in.
Dust Build Up
Dust build up is one of the problems that may cause your computer to overheat. Over time the fan section of the computer is prone to build up dust. The way to fix this to use compressed air and spray it near the vents. This will cause the dust to dissipate away from the fan.

Computer Freezes While Performing Tasks
Computer is slow to load programs or freezes while doing multiple tasks.
Not Enough RAM installed
If you are attempting to run multiple programs at once, the computer may struggle to do things quickly and efficiently. It often results in the computer becoming unresponsive and may need to be restarted. To fix this issue, you could install more RAM. Doing this will give you more memory to work with and you should reduce the risk of your computer freezing.
CPU is too Slow
If replacing the RAM does not solve the issue of your computer freezing, the processor may be getting too bogged down by the tasks. Replacing a computer’s processor can be difficult task. Only certain processors will work with certain motherboards so it is best to avoid replacing the processor. Instead, try not to have too many programs open and running at one time.
CD Drive Will Not Work
CD Drive is unresponsive or has physical damage to it.
Missing Program
If you recently uninstalled Microsoft Digital Image, this may be the cause for your problem. In order to fix this you must go onto the Microsoft webpage and find Microsoft Digital Image and install the program in order to get your CD Drive to work.
Physical Damage
If there is physical damage to your CD Drive you must replace it. Follow this guide in order to replace the CD Drive with a new one.
